for the

22nd AIG Women's Open Championship
Muirfield, East Lothian, Scotland

The AIG Women's Open continues its historic journey in taking the championship to the venerable old courses of the United Kingdom.  This year sees the championship come to Muirfield and the home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. 

 

Previously, the Championship has visited Royal Troon, St. Andrew's Old Course, Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham & St. Annes, Turnbury, Royal Liverpool, and Carnoustie.  So it was only fitting that the championship finally make its appearance at Muirfield.

Originally designed by Old Tom Morris himself, Muirfield has been challenging and inspiring players since it first opened in 1891 and has since become the host venue for the Open Championship on 16 - occasions. 

​

As the last major of the season, there will be much at stake with the annual Rolex Annika Major Award which goes to the player with the best performance in all of the majors.  Minjee Lee currently leads but is being pursued by fellow major winners — Jennifer Kupcho, Brooke Henderson, and In Gee Chun.  

 

For others, a good performance will help them secure valuable CME points for both the season ending CME Championship and for their tour status in 2023.

With its historic importance to the game of golf, this year's AIG Women's Open should be the first of many in the years to come.
